Pacific Coast Highway – California

The Pacific Coast Highway north-south state highway runs along most of the Pacific coastline of the state of California. Without stopping, it takes approximately 10 hours to drive the entire length of the Pacific Coast Highway giving you enough time to admire the stunning scenery along the way. This road trip takes you through San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Yosemite National Park, Los Angeles, and more. 

The highway curves along the California Coastline giving you stunning views worthy of plenty of pictures. Popular tourist attractions you get to see along the coastline include Malibu, the Golden Gate Bridge, San Simeon and, Monterey. There are also plenty of restaurants along the way that sell a variety of foods. 

This road trip has something for everyone including animal lovers. You can visit the Elephant Seal Rookery at San Piedras Beach in San Simeon, where more than 15,000 elephant seals migrate every year. For the nightlife, you can enjoy the vibrant LA with its many trendy bars.

Blue Ridge Parkway

Blue Ridge Parkway is America’s longest linear park,[3] runs for 469 miles (755 km”.  It connects two national parks- — Shenandoah in Virginia to the Great Smoky Mountains in North Carolina. The Blue Ridge Parkway was constructed between 1935 and 1967. 

 The parkway has been the most visited unit of the National Park System every year since 1946 except (1949, 2013, 2016 and 2019). This road trip takes you through magnificent mountains, rivers, lakes, parks, hiking trails, restaurants, small towns, the list is just endless.  

This road trip takes through the Appalachian Mountains all the way from Shenandoah National Park down the Blue Ridge chain to the Great Smoky Mountains. The best time to go on this road trip is in late June to early August when the weather is good or fall when the trees have leaves that  are colourful.

Route 66

Also known as “The Mother Road”, Route 66 was one of the original highways in the U.S. Highway System. Route 66 was established on November 11, 1926, with road signs erected the following year. This highway is one of the most famous roads in the United States.  

This road trip takes you through  Illinois, Missouri, Texas, New Mexico, California, Arizona, Oklahoma, Kansas and Los Angeles.  Popular attractions to admire along the way include the Grand Canyon, Chain of Rocks Bridge, Meramec Caverns, Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Will Rogers State Historic Park and much more.  

The Route 66 road trip takes you through history as you discover America through the road. You also get to admire the diversity of the country with each city you drive past. Definitely put route 66 on your bucket list.

Hana Coastline, Hawaii

The Hana Highway is a 64.4mile-long (103.6 km) route that connects Kahului to the town of Hana in east Maui. This narrow route passes over 59 bridges and 620 curves mostly through tropical rainforest. 

The road trip passes through Kahului,  the largest community on Maui and Paia, a small town popular with windsurfers.  You also go past Wai’anapanapa State Park, where you get to admire turquoise water, sea caves and hiking trails. Here you will also find Pa’iloa Beach, a black sand beach surrounded by lava rock and green vegetation.  

Waterfalls to admire along the way are the  Lower Puohokamoa Falls, Wailua Falls and the twin falls. Other sights do admire include the Pipiwai Trail, Waimoku Falls at Haleakala National Park, ‘Ohe’o Gulch (Seven Sacred Pools) and Hana Lava Tube. In August 2000, the highway was designated as the Hana Millennium Legacy Trail by President Bill Clinton
